1. Who we are
Blinks is a social app for golfers operated by JuxBox Inc. ("JuxBox", "we", "us", or "our"), a company incorporated in Alberta, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you use the Blinks website, web app, mobile apps, or related services (together, the "Service").
By using the Service you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your email address, first and last name, and a password. Passwords are managed and stored by Amazon Cognito; we never see your password in plain text.
Golfer profile
To match you with other golfers and tee times you may provide a handle (username), handicap or self-rated skill level, how often you play, your home course, profile visibility (public or private), and optionally your date of birth and a profile photo.
Location
At sign-up we ask for your city or area so we can show nearby courses and players. When you search for tee times you can change the search location. We use Google Places to resolve location text into coordinates. We do not collect continuous background location.
Social graph
We store the connections, friend requests, blocks, groups, and group memberships you create on the Service.
Activity
We record the rounds you create or join, the tee times you save or mark as booked, notification preferences you set, and similar information needed to operate the Service.
Device and technical data
When you use the Service we automatically receive technical information such as device type, operating system, browser, app version, and IP address. We use this for authentication, abuse prevention, and diagnosing problems.
Communications
If you email us or contact support, we keep a record of that correspondence.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate the Service — including matching you with players, searching for tee times, and managing rounds and groups.
- Send transactional and account messages (sign-up confirmation, password reset, notifications you've opted in to).
- Keep accounts secure and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Debug, monitor, and improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information to deliver third-party advertising.
4. How we share your information
With other Blinks users
Information you choose to make public — such as your handle, profile photo, handicap, and home course — is visible to other users when your profile visibility is set to public, when you send or receive friend requests, and when you participate in a group or round.
With service providers
We rely on the following third parties to operate the Service:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — application and database hosting.
- Amazon Cognito — account authentication and password management.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications you've enabled.
- Postmark — delivery of transactional emails.
- Google Places — resolving location text into coordinates for course search.
These providers process information on our behalf under contract and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
For legal reasons
We may disclose information when required by law, when responding to lawful requests by public authorities, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of JuxBox, our users, or others.
In a business transfer
If JuxBox is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users of any such change of control.
5. International data transfers
JuxBox is based in Canada, but the Service is hosted on AWS in the United States (us-west-2 region). This means information we collect about you is transferred to and stored in the United States, and may be processed in other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
We rely on standard contractual protections with our service providers to safeguard your information during these transfers, as required under Canadian privacy law.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your Blinks account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it longer (for example, to comply with legal, accounting, or regulatory obligations, or to resolve disputes).
Backups containing your information may persist for a limited period after deletion and are overwritten on a rolling schedule.
7. Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete your account and personal information.
- Withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide the Service to you.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@blinks.golf. We will respond within the timelines required by applicable law.
If you are not satisfied with our response you may also contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
8. Children
Blinks is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, please email privacy@blinks.golf and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), managed credential storage through Amazon Cognito, and access controls on our systems. No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security — but if we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information we will notify you and applicable regulators as required by law.
10. Cookies and tracking
The Blinks marketing site at blinks.golf does not use analytics or tracking cookies.
The Blinks web app uses browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. It does not use third-party tracking cookies. Our mobile apps use device-level identifiers only to deliver push notifications you have enabled.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If changes are material we will notify you by email or through the Service before they take effect.
